Can I get a Chromebook or Hotspot from the Library? What if they are all checked out?

Answer

Students enrolled in a course in the current semester can check out technology from the library (computers, hotspots, etc) and will be limited to 1 computer (Windows laptop or Chromebook) and 1 hotspot. These items check out for the full semester. CCSF employees are not able to request Chromebooks or hotspots for checkout at this time.

You can check out technology items during open hours at the libraries on a first come, first served basis. Check availability by

  • clicking on the item you need on the library's technology page,
  • clicking on the name of the item you want to borrow, and
  • reviewing the item page for availability and location.

If an item is available, go to the Circulation Desk at the owning location with your CCSF ID to ask for the technology item.

You can also place a request:

  1. Visit the library's technology page and click on the item you'd like to check out.
  2. Click the name of the item in the OneSearch result list.
  3. Click sign in and use your RAM ID credentials to log in.
  4. Click "Request," select the owning location, and "Send Request."
  5. Wait for a confirmation email (to your CCSFmail account) saying that your materials are ready to pick up. It may take a week for us to confirm your item is ready.

Due to the high demand, there may be times when all library technology has been checked out. If the technology item status in OneSearch shows "Not available," this means that they are all checked out at the moment.

If an item is not available, you may submit a request to be added to the wait list. Since technology checks out for the entire semester, your request wait time will be impacted by whether another student brings back their item early.
