I'm a professor at CCSF. How do I add the Library Workshops to my Canvas course?

Answer

Unfortunately, there is no way for faculty to embed the library online workshops into their Canvas courses -- the Library Skills Workshops is a Canvas course (0 units) on its own.

Here are some alternate options:

  1. Place the link to the workshops page on a page in your Canvas course. It will take students to the library webpage the Start Workshop button is prominently displayed, along with frequently asked questions: https://library.ccsf.edu/research/workshops
    • For English 1A, completing all 6 of the workshops including the Research Challenger satisfies the college's Information Competency requirement.

OR

  1. Import the Library Welcome mini-module in Canvas, which has a link to the workshops, into your course. (English and other faculty assigning all library workshops can delete all pages except the online handout, since evaluating and choosing sources is covered in the workshops.) The mini-module contains:
    1. a welcome video from a librarian
    2. an online handout page with links to library resources, including the library online workshops
    3. a video about evaluating information sources
    4. a tutorial about how to choose the best web source
    5. a tutorial is about how to evaluate information
    6. an optional research exercise

To import it:

  1. log in to Canvas and go to Canvas Commons on the left side gray margin. In Commons,
  2. use the Filter button in the upper right to select City College of San Francisco, shown at the very bottom of your screen. Then,
  3. in the Commons search box, enter the word: library. You will then see a module with a light bulb image that is called 'Welcome to the CCSF Library Online.'
  4. Click Import/Download to import into your course and delete any pages not needed.
